Ultra-dense (Bi, V, B)-oxide-added zircon ceramics fabricated by liquid-phase assisted spark plasma sintering (SPS)

Abstract Ultra-high-density zircon (ZrSiO 4 ) ceramics were prepared using the spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique of nanopowder with addition three different agents, i.e., Bi 2 O 3 , V 5 and B . The effect each agent SPS parameters (temperature pressure) on phase composition, microstructure, thermal mechanical properties evaluated. identified crystalline phases sintered monoclinic zirconia. a affects structure ceramics, i.e. lattice parameter crystallite size. reached relative densities up to 99.9% theoretical one when or was added. SEM observations confirmed densification ceramics. We found exhibited conductivity ranging from 0.39 0.61 Wm −1 K at 373 while coefficient expansion 2.3–4.0 × 10 −6 /°C Vickers hardness obtained be 9.52–12.66 GPa. Young’s ( E ), bulk shear G moduli, Poisson’s ratio ν, Pugh’s B/G H V 3 / E * 2 are in range 240 − 288 GPa, 207 267 91 109 Pa, 1.95 2.45, 0.011 0.019 respectively. that high-density, quasi-ductile can synthesized low temperature short holding time.
